Microsoft shipped something in Intune's late-August update that most medical practices should care about more than they'll realize: you can now pull an inventory of personally owned Android phones carrying a work profile, right next to the company-owned devices.

Here's why that matters.

In almost every practice I walk into, the front desk, the billing coordinator and at least two providers are reading work email on their own phones. Nobody signed a form. Nobody wrote it down. It just happened.

That's not a failure of discipline — it's how a busy 20-person office actually runs. The problem shows up later. A medical assistant gives notice on a Friday. Her personal phone still has the shared inbox, the schedule, and six months of message threads with patient names in them. You have no list, so you don't know there's anything to do.

The fix isn't confiscating phones. It's a work profile: practice data lives in a container you can wipe by itself, and the personal photos stay untouched. Now you can also see which phones are out there instead of guessing.

Worth asking your IT provider one question this month — can you show me every phone with practice email on it? If the answer is a pause, that's the answer.
