NOAA's updated outlook puts this Atlantic season at a 75% chance of finishing below normal. If you run a practice in South Florida, that's the most dangerous sentence you'll read this month.
Below-normal is a forecast about how many storms form. It says nothing about whether one finds you.
Here's what I actually see after a storm: the building is usually fine. What takes a practice offline is four days without power and internet while your team sits at home, ready to work, with no way in.
That part is fixable, and you're probably already paying for most of it. If email, files and phones live in Microsoft 365, your data is sitting in a datacenter, not in a server closet behind the break room. The real question is whether your front desk can reach it safely from a personal laptop at a relative's house in Orlando, or whether that turns into its own problem.
One more thing worth checking: Microsoft keeps your data available, but their own guidance is blunt that file versioning doesn't scale when you need to restore everything at once. Available and recoverable are not the same word.
A week of canceled appointments costs more than the hour it takes to write the plan down.
Worth a look before your next cyber renewal.
